Exploration and Mining History

1911: Conley deposit discovered by test pitting. 1916: No. 1 shaft sunk about 100 feet east of the Henderson line. 1919: No. 2 shaft was started, 300 ft NE of main shaft. Ore pinched out with depth so subsequent work carried out from No. 1 shaft. 1935: No. 3 shaft sunk near new orebody. 1938: Merger of Conley and Henderson Mines, joined by crosscut from 4th level of No. 1 shaft in the Conley Mine. Old workings on No. 1 and No. 2 shafts now sealed off. 1951-1983: the mine was operated by Canada Talc Industries Limited. 1983: The company was reorganized as Canada Talc Limited.
