Access Description:

Access for the visit was from the lake shore at a campsite at 570925E 5220120N with the occurrence being about 1.2 km to the north. The Ferguson Trail is located to the east of the campsite and the meandering trail appears to pass close to the occurrence. On our visit in July 2009, the trail was well travelled in some areas and could not be found in others. Access described in older reports indicates road access was possible from the Red Squirrel Road that intersects Hwy 11 north of the village of Temagami.

19/07/2009 The Gowganda Formation sedimentary rocks are argillite, greywacke and conglomerate. The vein is in diabase near the contact with Huronian greywacke. The vein strikes about 170 and dips about 10. Quartz-carbonate vein at least 2 m thick as exposed. Mineralization is patchy within the vein and can be coarse grained. Zones of malachite, pyrite and a magnetic mineral (phyrrotite?) and possibly galena.

Comments

25/01/2013 Quartz-carbonate veins are found both in the diabase and the adjacent varved argillite near the lower contact of the diabase sill.

Comments

25/01/2013 The thickness of the mineralized zone reportedly varies from a maximum of 13 feet to a minimum of 1.5 feet. There are three main showings on the property. The southernmost showing comprises a flat-lying quartz-carbonate vein containing pyrite, chalcopyrite, pyrrhotite and galena in stringers and patches. This vein lies near the lower contact of the diabase and contains inclusions of sheared diabase and argillite. Grab samples collected from the vein by Derosier returned assays of 1.36-10% Cu, up to 5.32% Ag and up to 3.59% Pb. A chip sample from the vein collected by the ODM in 1960 assayed 0.02 oz/t Au, 1.42% Cu, and traces of Co, Ni and Ag. The central showing lies at the diabase-argillite contact where a conformable vein of quartz-carbonate. The 6 inch to 6 ft wide vein dips 20W and SW. Grab samples from the site assayed 9.22% Cu, 0.13% Ni, 0.09% Co and 8.56% Ag. The northernmost showing is an 8 ft thick quartz vein cutting interbedded conglomerate and greywacke. This vein strikes N30W and dips 10-40 NE. Assays from the Gunnex drilling returned best assays of 0.14% Ag, 0.2% Cu over 1.4 ft from DDH G-1; 1.14 oz/t Ag, 0.14 oz/t Au and 2.15% Cu over 1 ft from DDH G-3. All drilling was concentrated on the northernmost showing. Assays from a sampling program completed by A. Hardie in 1975 returned assays of: 7.95% Cu and 2.1 oz/t Ag over 20 ft; 4.73% Cu, 1.20 oz/t Ag over 30 ft. The best assays from chip samples returned 19.9% Cu over 3 ft; and 5.64% Cu over 3 ft.
19/07/2009 Mineralization consists of chalcopyrite, malachite, pyrrhotite, and traces of pyrite and galena. Crude banding of the mineralization has been noted parallel to the base of the sill (Simony 1964, Kirkland Lake assessment file CO-0884). A vein sample with about 5% sulphide mineralization, collected during the recent examination, returned an assay of 1.4% copper and greater than 187 ppm Co. Historical diamond drilling, on 100 foot (30.48 m) centres, outlined mineralization over about 600 square feet (55 m2) with intersections varying from nil to 13 feet (4 m). Mineralization consists of chalcopyrite, malachite, pyrrhotite, and traces of pyrite and galena. The prospects geological location, at the contact of Nipissing Diabase and Gowganda Formation sedimentary rocks near the unconformity with older Archean volcanic rocks, is similar to Cobalt silver deposits, but it lacks the coppernickel-iron arsenides associated with such deposits. Other than the presence of chalcopyrite occurring in the Lake Temagami area, the prospect shows no other similarities for the past-producing Copperfields Mine. The prospect, as defined by diamond drilling, is limited, flat lying, with its narrow thickness limiting its economic potential. Exploration in the area is further encumbered by land alienations.
